Door to Doc (all modules)

Door to Doc, Doc to Dispo and Dispo to Departure are the three fundamental time intervals in the emergency department.

This course covers the best practices of Door to Doc – the interval from the time the patient arrives until the patient is seen by the physician. The keys to the front end of the emergency department are getting the patient and the physician together as quickly as possible and eliminating and many non value-added steps and queuing interfaces as possible.

About The Course

The Door to Doc interval is dominated by the practice of triaging patients and consists of the following components:

Door to Triage.  The Door to Triage interval consists of the patient arrival, sign-in, and registration.

Triage Start to Triage End. The triage time interval consists of the time the nurse begins triage to the time triage is completed.

Triage to Bed Assignment. This is the most important time sub-interval in the ED from the perspective of improving the patient experience. Examining this interval can give you a good idea of queuing that is related to the Doc to Dispo interval, either related to beds, docs or nurses.

Bed to Doc. The Bed to Doc interval is the time from the patient bed placement until the patient is seen by the physician. This interval is important from the perspective of understanding whether or not there is a significant physician component related to queuing in the ED.
